Ans: A supply function states the dependence relationship between supply for a commodity or service and the factors or variable affecting it.

Thus the supply function for commodity x can symbolically be stated as follows

In a study of 2205 Swedish men followed for more than 20 years from the age of 50 showed that exercise made no difference in premature death rates for at least a decade for those who waited until later in life to start physical activity. It has been shown that young people benefit from exercise but this is the first time we have been able to show that old people can also benefit from increasing their physical activity. The researchers put the volunteers into low, medium & high activity groups. About half the men reported a high level of exercise, corresponding to at least 3 hours of sport or heavy gardening each week.

About a third said they exercised moderately, such as taking walks and cycling,
while the rest did little or no exercise, the researchers reported in the British Medical Journal.

Not surprisingly, death rates were highest among the sedentary group and lowest among the most active volunteers in the first five years of the study. But after 10 years people who began exercising at 50 had similar death rates to people in the high activity group.

Researchers at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research in Massachusetts successfully removed stumbling block in using pluripotent stem cells by taking out potentially cancer causing genes. The pluripotent stem cells could be made from a patient's own skin cells that reducing the chances of the body's immune system might reject the cells as it sometimes does with organ transplants. Scientists have learned that just a handful of genes can reprogram a cell back to a state in which, like an embryonic stem cell, it can generate any type of cell in the body. But the researchers said, these genes have the potential to cause cancer and also may interact with unpredictable results with thousands of other genes in the cell.

The Whitehead Institute team used viruses to transfer 3 genes into the skin cells of Parkinson's patients then removed them after they had done their job. The result was a batch of cells that looked like embryonic stem cells from Parkinson's patients, without the extra genes.
